TRAINING CENTER PROGRAMS
The ADN (RN) program of study is designed for qualified Licensed Practical Nurses and consists of 2 semesters (30 semester hours) of general education courses and one summer term followed by 2 semesters of nursing courses. Students are provided clinical experiences that build on previously acquired skills and include direct patient care, virtual learning methods and clinical simulations using computerized patient care mannequins.

Pre-requisites required: 5 semesters Summary of Program Requirements Minimum Admission Requirements Completion of all prerequisite courses by the end of the spring semester immediately prior to admission to nursing program courses. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 on pre-requisite courses. A minimum grade of C is required in all science courses. Anatomy and Physiology I & II Lec and Lab and Microbiology Lec and Lab must not be more than 5 years old at the time of admission (end of spring semester of year seeking admission). The program of instruction is consistent with the institutional commitment of teaching and learning which is designed to incorporate the highest instructional and nursing standards. The program of instruction is designed to incorporate knowledge, attitudes, and skills applicable to life in a complex society. The program also focuses on the education and healthcare needs of rural East Central Mississippi. The associate degree nurse is prepared to provide and manage care for individuals and groups in a variety of health care settings. Clear, concise, and timely communication with internal and external constituencies is a critical success factor for an effective nursing program. We believe the nurse of the future must encompass the core concepts of patient-centered care, professionalism, leadership, systems-based practice, informatics, communication, collaboration, safety, quality improvement and evidenced based practice, in order to provide safe and effective care. Graduates of the program receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree (AAS).

Pre-requisites required: 70 hours Summary of Program Requirements The applicant must apply for regular admission and be accepted by ECCC. The applicant must complete the Associate Degree Nursing Program application and submit to the Office of Healthcare Education. The applicant must submit proof of scoring a minimum of 18 composite score on the ACT. The applicant must have a cumulative Grade Point Average (GPA) of 2.00 or higher. All applicants are required to complete Anatomy & Physiology I with lab (or upper level equivalents with lab), Anatomy & Physiology II with lab (or upper level equivalents with lab), and Microbiology with lab (or upper level equivalent with lab) with a letter grade of C or higher in each course prior to taking the first nursing course. *An applicant may be accepted into the ADN program prior to completing courses, but all courses must be successfully completed prior to beginning nursing classes in the fall. All applicants are required to pay the Colleges business office for pre-admission fees, which may include, but not limited to, pre-entrance examination and criminal history background fees. The receipt for payment of the pre-entrance examination is due to the Office of Healthcare Education by January 31 for fall admission of each year. Students that receive notification of candidacy acceptance must submit a receipt for payment of the criminal history background fee is due the Office of Healthcare Education by March 31. All applicants are required to take a pre-entrance examination test specified by the Office of Healthcare Education. Tests will be scheduled by the Office of Healthcare Education after the January 31st deadline. Each applicant will be notified of scheduled test dates via email from the Office of Healthcare Education. Applicants selected for admission into the program must submit documentation of the following by July 31st during the year of admission: Satisfactory physical examination that includes the ability to perform the essential functions related to Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) core standards, which must be completed by a licensed physician or nurse practitioner in June or July. Proof of immunizations against measles, mumps, rubella (MMR), or rubella titer. Hepatitis B vaccine, titer, or signed declination statement. American Heart Association Basic Life Support Provider Course only (completed in June or July of admission year). Valid proof of age to be eighteen (18) years or older (Accepted forms of validation include current drivers license, birth certificate, state-issued identification, or tribal identification). All applicants must submit to and satisfactorily complete a criminal history background check as scheduled by the Office of Healthcare Education. The purpose of the Associate Degree Nursing program is to prepare men and women for the role of registered nurse, competent to function as a professional and valuable member of the health care team in providing care for individuals, families and communities. EMCC offers two entry options for the Associate Degree Nursing Program. The Generic option and the LPN to RN transition option.

Pre-requisites required: 2 years Summary of Program Requirements To be considered for the Associate Degree Nursing program, applicants must complete all testing, meet the minimum requirements and submit all required paperwork by Oct. 1 each year for spring admission. Incomplete admission packets will not be considered for admission. All pre-requisite work must be completed by the Oct. 1 deadline. The applicant is responsible for ensuring that the data in the file is received, correct and complete. Admission is competitive and enrollment is limited. The number of applicants accepted is limited due to the nature of the program. Students are not chosen with regard to sex, age, race, creed, ethnic origin, or marital status. All students are admitted provisionally, pending completion of admission packet and a clear criminal background check. A minimum composite score of 19 with a subscore of 19 in reading on the ACT. A grade of C or higher in College Algebra, Anatomy and Physiology I and II. Pre-requisite science classes must have been completed in the last five years. Cumulative GPA of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale for all previous college work attempted. Students with less than the required ACT composite score must have completed a minimum of 12 semester hours, including Anatomy and Physiology, with a 2.5 grade point average before being admitted. They must have made a grade of at least a "C" in Anatomy and Physiology classes. Students who have previously earned a baccalaureate or higher degree may enter without an ACT by completing all the course prerequisites to the nursing major with a grade of "C" or better, and having an overall grade point average of 2.5. Take the Kaplan Nursing School Admission Exam with a score of at least 65% on all sections. You must meet the minimum ACT score prior to taking the Kaplan Exam. The cost of the Kaplan Exam is the responsibility of the student. Applicants may register to take the Kaplan Exam with the Allied Health administrative assistant. The entrance test may be retaken once in order to achieve a higher score. Kaplan has developed a preparatory book titled Nursing School Admission Exams (Kaplan Nursing School Admission Exam) by Kaplan. This book is available on Amazon.com and local book stores. The Registered Nursing program at ICC is a two-year (five-semester) program. Graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science in Nursing degree and are eligible to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN). The program offers one class per year beginning each fall.

Pre-requisites required: 2 years, 5 semesters Summary of Program Requirements To be considered for admission to the Associate Degree Nursing program, an applicant must be admitted to the College, submit an online Health Science Application to the Associate Degree Nursing program and meet the following criteria: 1. High school graduate or high school equivalency diploma. Official transcript is required. 2. Minimum ACT score of 18 if taken on or after the October, 1989 test date. Official ACT score must be on file in the ICC Admissions Office. Scores may be sent directly from ACT (www.act.org) to ICC which can take six weeks or more, printed from ACTs website and submitted to the Office of Admissions by the student or sent by the students high school of attendance. (If ACT was taken while in high school, the score is typically on the high school transcript.) ACT scores on college transcripts are not acceptable. 3. Must have an overall grade point average of at least 2.0 on previous college credit in the prescribed curriculum. 4. Complete the following prerequisites with a grade of C or higher by May 20: ? BIO 2514 Anatomy and Physiology I with Lab ? BIO 2524 Anatomy and Physiology II with Lab ? MAT 1313 College Algebra 5. Qualified applications will be given priority based on academic records (ACT and relevant college coursework (GPA). Admission to the program is not guaranteed. All applicants seeking admission are ranked (See Point Rating System.) and admitted as space is available. 6. Submit a Letter of Good Standing (required only if the applicant has ever been enrolled in a LPN or RN program) to the Associate Degree Nursing Department by April 1. 7. Forms No additional forms are required as part of the admissions process. 8. Upon admission to the program, a student must submit a physical examination form, proof of current immunizations, BLS Provider certification to include CPR and AED in accordance with the American Heart Association (Certifications must be on or after June 1 of the year program classes begin.), a negative drug screen (administered by the North Mississippi Medical Center) and satisfactory criminal background check (administered by ICC personnel). Certain criminal offenses may prevent admission into the program; therefore, it is highly recommended the student contact the Dean of Health Science Instruction or the program director for guidance related to specific thresholds for admission. Should the College allow a student with a criminal background entrance into the Associate Degree Nursing program, certain clinical affiliates may deny the student access to their facility. Itawamba Community College does not serve as an agent to prospective employers, state licensing agencies or credentialing organizations in regard to the interpretation of the criminal background check; therefore, the obtainment of criminal background clearance which permits the student to perform clinical experiences in a licensed healthcare facility while enrolled in the Associate Degree Nursing program does not guarantee a healthcare facility will employ the graduate. Students in the program are prepared as entry level professional nurse caregivers. Mastery learning of some concepts is incorporated within the curriculum. Enrollment in nursing courses is limited to students formally accepted into the program of study. Non-nursing courses may be completed prior to admission into the nursing program Graduates of the program receive the Associate of Applied Science in Nursing Degree which meets the educational requirement needed to apply for the National Council of State Boards of Nursing licensure examination for the Registered Nurse. A Board of Nursing may, at its discretion, refuse to accept the licensure application of any person who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor or has charges pending on such issues.
