Practical Nursing (PN)-Practical Nurse

Practical nursing is an integral component of the nursing profession. The practical nurse functions under the supervision of a registered nurse or licensed health care provider in a variety of health care settings with accountability and responsibility to the individual, the supervising professional and society for the provision of quality, safe nursing practice. Utilizing the nursing process components, the practical nurse exercises cognitive, psychomotor, and affective behaviors to observe, report, and intervene with respect to the client’s needs within the ethical/legal framework of the profession. Additionally, as a provider of nursing care, the practical nurse must demonstrate and maintain competence through utilization of evidence based practice.

Practical Nursing (PN)-Practical Nurse

Graduates are eligible to sit for the National Physical Therapy Examination (NPTE) for physical therapist assistants which is administered by the Mississippi State Board of Physical Therapy.

Pre-requisites required:
Composite ACT score of 16 or above OR comparable Accuplacer scores OR successful completion of the following courses within the last 5 years with a C or above: Human Growth and Development, Anatomy and Physiology I and II with labs, and Nutrition ADN have a cumulative GPA of 2.0 on all previous college coursework.

3 semesters

Summary of Program Requirements

Practical Nursing (PN)-Practical Nurse

The Practical Nursing program is a twelve-month certificate program designed to prepare qualified individuals to function as a member of the health care team in administering safe, effective health care as a Licensed Practical Nurse. The care rendered by a Licensed Practical Nurse is under the direction of a registered nurse, licensed physician or licensed dentist. Upon successful completion of the Practical nursing Program the graduate will be eligible to take the NCLEX-PN (licensure exam) to become a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN).
