Surgical Technology is an instructional program that prepares an individual to serve as a member of the surgical team to work with surgeons, anesthesiologists, certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during and after surgery.

Pre-requisites required: 2 year-AAS or 12 month Certificate of Surgical Technology Summary of Program Requirements 1) The student must apply for regular admission or readmission and be accepted by the college. 2) Applicants must submit a completed application for the Surgical Technology program to the Office of Healthcare Education. 3) Must be eighteen (18) years of age or older. 4) Must have a high school diploma or GED. 5) Must be in good physical condition as verified by a medical examination and certifying report (National Certification Requirement). 5) Must have a an ACT composite score of 16 with a 12 in math and reading, or 12 composite if taken before October 1989, with a 12 in math and reading. 6) Applicants must undergo a personal interview with the admissions committee. 7) Applicants must be recommended by the Surgical Technology Admissions Committee. 8) Applicants must refer to college catalog for post acceptance requirements. 9) Candidates must have no visible tattoos on hands or face. Financial assistance, such as Pell Grants, College Work Study, Scholarships and Loans, is available to qualified East Central Community College Students. Surgical Technology is an instructional program that prepares an individual to serve as a member of the surgical team to work with surgeons, anesthesiologists and certified registered nurse anesthetists, registered nurses, and other surgical personnel in delivering patient care and assuming appropriate responsibilities before, during, and after surgery. This program includes the education of all aspects of surgical technology including the role of second assistant & circulators. The Surgical Technology Program offers classroom and clinical experiences for the entry-level surgical technologist which includes courses in aseptic technique, operative procedures, patient care, anatomy and physiology, microbiology, pharmacology, medical terminology, medical/legal aspects, technological sciences (computer, electricity & robotics), and related general education to help the student fulfill his/her role as an important, knowledgeable member of the surgical team. The goal of the Surgical Technology Program at Holmes College is to prepare competent entry-level surgical technologists in the cognitive (knowledge), psychomotor (skills), and affective (behavior) learning domains. Further, the Surgical Technology Department will provide students with the opportunity to develop skills and knowledge necessary to gain employment as a surgical technologist and become a contributing member of the healthcare team.

Be at least 18 years of age. Surgical Technology program is a one-year (three-semester) program. Graduates will receive a certificate of completion or with some additional academic courses may receive the Associate of Applied Science degree. The graduate is eligible to take the national credentialing exam to become a certified surgical technologist.

Pre-requisites required: 1 year Certificate additional courses available for AAS degree. Summary of Program Requirements 1. High school graduate or high school equivalency diploma 2. Minimum ACT score of 16 if taken on or after the October, 1989 test date. Official ACT score must be on file in the ICC Admissions Office. Scores may be sent directly from ACT (www.act.org) to ICC which can take six weeks or more, printed from ICCs website and submitted to the Office of Admissions by the student or sent by the students high school of attendance. (If ACT was taken while in high school, the score is typically on the high school transcript.) ACT scores on college transcripts are not acceptable. 3. Bonus points toward interview: ? Overall GPA ? Grades in Anatomy and Physiology I and II ? Grade in English Composition I ? Grades in High School Allied Health I and II 4. Qualified applicants who have submitted all required information by the April 1 deadline will have their materials reviewed. Based on the selection criteria, the highest-ranking students will be invited to a personal interview with the Surgical Technology Admissions Committee. (See Surgical Technology Point Rating System.) The final selection will be determined from the group of applicants interviewed. 5. Upon admission to the program, a student must submit a physical examination form, proof of current immunizations, BLS Provider certification to include CPR and AED in accordance with the American Heart Association (Certifications must be on or after June 1 of the year program classes begin.), a negative drug screen (administered by the North Mississippi Medical Center) and satisfactory criminal background check (administered by ICC personnel). Certain criminal offenses may prevent admission into the program; therefore, it is highly recommended the student contact his/her adviser, the program director or the Dean of Health Science Instruction for guidance related to specific thresholds for admission. Should the College allow a student with a criminal background entrance into the Surgical Technology program, certain clinical affiliates may deny the student access to their facility. Itawamba Community College does not serve as an agent to prospective employers, state licensing agencies or credentialing organizations in regard to the interpretation of the criminal background check; therefore, the obtainment of criminal background clearance which permits the student to perform clinical experiences in a licensed healthcare facility while enrolled in the Surgical Technology program does not guarantee a healthcare facility will employ the graduate. Pre-requisites required: Associate of Applied Science Degree - 2 year program Vocational Certificate Program - 1 year Summary of Program Requirements The applicant must be at least 18 years of age, Application for admission to Northwest Mississippi Community College with required high school and college transcript(s) and ACT scores must be sent to the Senatobia campus. The applicant must be a high school graduate (diploma) or have made equivalent scores on the GED test. A transcript of all previous schooling must be on file. ACT scores are required for applicants under 21 years of age. The Applicant must complete a Program Application. The applicant shall make satisfactory scores on the TABE test. This tests is given at Lafayette-Yalobusha Technical Center. Test dates will be mailed to each applicant. After testing, the applicant will interview before an Admissions committee. If accepted into the Surgical Technology program, the applicant must have on file the following:a signed Acceptance Agreement, a health examination certificate (Student Health Record), a negative drug screen, copy of laboratory/diagnostic test, a record of immunizations, and a Criminal History Background Affidavit.
