Surgical Technician

Surgical Technologists are an important part the surgical team. In the operating room, Surgical Technologists assist surgeons with instruments and equipment, as well as maintaining a sterile field. They may also help surgeons with cutting sutures, retraction of tissues and operating surgical equipment. The job requires working with a high level of speed, accuracy, skill and concentration.

Surgical Technologists work in hospital, surgical centers and physician offices, which means there are job opportunities across the country. Employment is expected to increase in the future as baby boomers age and require more surgical procedures.

Employers require an associate degree and a certification. Several Mississippi community colleges offer Surgical Technology programs.
