Business and Related Office Technology
Business and Related Office Technology is a two-year program of study which requires courses in the career technical core, designated areas of concentration, and the academic core. The Associate of Applied Science degree is earned upon successful completion of the Office Systems Technology, Accounting Technology, Medical Office Technology and Medical Billing and Coding curriculum. The program provides a foundation for students to enter the job market and/or transfer to a four-year college or university to pursue a specialized degree in the field.

The Accounting Technology Program is offered on all three campuses and prepares students for entry-level accounting positions in accounts payable, accounts receivables, payroll and inventory as well as enhances the skills of persons currently employed in accounting who wish to advance in their field. Bachelor of Business Administration in Accountancy
The Accounting Technology Program is designed to prepare students for entry-level accounting positions in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and inventory as well as enhance the skills of persons currently employed in accounting who wish to advance. The program provides a foundation for students transferring to a four-year college or university to pursue a specialized degree in the field.
The Accounting Technology program includes a basic core of courses designed to prepare a student for a variety of entry-level positions through selections of a concentration of 60 semester credit hours. Students who successfully complete 45 semester hours as outlined in the program of study may be awarded a technical certificate. Students who successfully complete 60 semester hours as outlined in the program of study may be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree. All courses for the Accounting Technology Program are offered online.

Business Pathway
The Department of Accounting offers the BBA degree with a major in accounting. Also, we work with the College of Business Graduate Business Studies to offer the Master of Professional Accountancy (MPA) and the PHD in Business with a concentration in Accounting.
The Business Division offers curricula to meet the requirements for students majoring in Accounting, Business Administration, International Business, Management Information Systems, Business Education, Health Information Management, Office Administration, and other business-related majors. Requirements for the Computer Science major are also listed in this division. The prescribed courses outlined in the catalog of the senior institution in which the student plans to transfer should be correlated with the course of study outlined for the first two years at college level. Students are urged to work closely with business advisors in order to assure enrolling in the correct courses for transfer to senior institutions of student’s choice.

The Richard C. Adkerson School of Accountancy offers outstanding academic programs, and a vibrant, challenging learning environment for its students, both face-to-face and online. The Adkerson School of Accountancy combines general, broad business and accounting education into a specialized curriculum designed to meet the greater demand for accountants, stemming from developments in information technology, increasingly complicated taxation and governmental control measures, and a growing awareness of the need for accurate control methods in existing businesses. This program prepares students for positions in public, private, or governmental accounting.
The Department of Business offers several pathways of study that provide a solid educational foundation for students planning to transfer to a senior institution. Business students will utilize the modern computer labs to get hands-on experience using the most up-to-date software applications. Students can also get involved on campus through department clubs and organizations including Phi Beta Lambda, a national business organization.
The Accounting Technology program is a technical program designed to prepare students for entry-level accounting positions in accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, and inventory management while also developing the skills necessary for future advancement. This curriculum integrates accounting and computer operation with training in payroll accounting, income tax accounting, computerized accounting, and Microsoft® Office applications. Upon successful completion, students should be prepared for accounting positions in business and industry, governmental agencies, and public accounting firms. Successful completion of the first year (30 hours) leads to the Accounting Technology Certificate. Students successfully completing the full 60 hours will be awarded an Associates of Applied Science degree.

The nationally ranked Patterson School of Accountancy offers programs including a Bachelor of Accountancy, several specialized master’s degrees, and a Ph.D.
Graduates find placements with accounting firms, government and nonprofit agencies, and various businesses nationally and internationally, with many master’s students passing the CPA exam before starting their careers.
Accounting, known as "The Language of Business,” is the process of measuring results of an organization and communicating those results to investors, creditors, and management. Other aspects of accounting include tax compliance and planning, providing assurance on financial statements and IT systems, advising on technology and IT issues, designing and implementing business processes, and assisting in mergers and acquisitions. Our program is dedicated to setting up graduates for success in their careers. We also provide students the opportunity to participate in many professional development events delivered by accounting and business professionals and in our accounting clubs, Beta Alpha Psi (BAP) and the Center for the Public Trust (CPT). In addition, we highly encourage students to complete an accounting internship during their academic studies. Our students have completed internships with well-known accounting firms such as Horne LLP, KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, Ernst & Young, Carr, Riggs & Ingram, Haddox Reid, Postlethwaite & Netterville, TMH, and GranthamPoole and with companies such as Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan, Wayne Sanderson, Cooperative Energy, and the Beau Rivage.
