According to the Mississippi Department of Employment Security, the entry-level wage for heating and air conditioning technicians is $30,496, and those with experience can earn an average of $48,569.
The Air Conditioning, Heating and Refrigeration Program is designed to prepare the student for employment and advancement in the field of air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration.
It is the objective of this course to present basic principles, to develop correct work procedures, and to train in the basic skills necessary for advancement in the field of air conditioning, heating and refrigeration. Upon satisfactory completion of this course, a student will be prepared to secure employment with businesses that install or service air conditioning, heating, or refrigeration systems and equipment or to become self-employed.

Heating and Air Conditioning Technology
The Heating and Air Conditioning program of study is a two-year program comprised of both classroom instruction and laboratory experiments with students receiving training in welding, the laws of refrigeration, the basic refrigeration cycle, the purpose and operation of compressors, condensers, evaporators, metering devices, and oil coolers. The student learns how to troubleshoot, repair, and install all types of domestic and commercial refrigeration and heating systems. Also, he/she learns to estimate heating and cooling loads, to give job estimates, to care for tools and equipment, and to set up a service shop and safety.
