Job Description
Heating, air conditioning, and refrigeration mechanics and installers often called heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration (HVACR) technicians work on heating, ventilation, cooling, and refrigeration systems that control the temperature and air quality in buildings.
Training Opportunities
Heating and Air Conditioning Technology is a post-secondary instructional program that prepares individuals to work in engineering departments or private firms installing, maintaining, and operating small or medium air conditioning, heating, and refrigeration systems. Instruction prepares individuals to work in a commercial setting performing special tasks relating to designing duct work, assembly, installation, servicing, operation, and maintenance of heating and cooling systems according to the standards of the American Society of Heating, Refrigeration, and Air Conditioning Engineers, Inc., Air Conditioning Contractors of American (ACCA), and Air Conditioning Refrigeration Institute (ARI). Included are air conditioning, heating and refrigeration devices; equipment, techniques, and systems; and maintenance and operation of these systems.
Pre-requisites required:Students enrolling in the certificate option program must have a high school diploma or GED. All students are required to score 100 percent on a program safety exam prior to the deadline of a course drop/delete period.

The primary objective of the HVAC/R-MAR Technician Program is to provide students with training and experience in the installation, repair and maintenance of heating, ventilating, air conditioning and refrigeration systems across a wide spectrum of applications. The program offers topics such as theory, equipment components and operation, and provides students with the basic skills and knowledge to secure entry level employment in the HVAC, major appliance, electrical and facilities management industries.
Pre-requisites required:Applicants must: (1) provide proof of high school diploma or recognized equivalency, (2) be proficient in speaking, writing, reading, and comprehending English, (3) have a personal interview with an authorized representative of the school, (4) complete a Health Affidavit/Screening, and (5) have a valid drivers license, state issued ID, or passport.
Length of Program:35 weeks (9 months)

Length of Program:Associate of Applied Science Degree (All students acquiring a degree must obtain universal EPA certification prior to graduation.) Vocational Certificate Program (Students acquiring a certificate must obtain Type I and Type II EPA certification.)
