Pre-requisites required:
Applicants must apply for Northwest admission and be accepted before completing a Health Science Application. Valid EMT-Basic state certificationGrade point average of “C” or better in Anatomy and Physiology I with lab(BIO 2513 and BIO 2511). Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or GED. ACT composite score of 18 or better or TABE (Survey A) score of 12 or better.

Nationally-registered Emergency Medical Technicians may be eligible to participate in the Paramedic program at Ridgeland or Grenada. A new paramedic program begins annually on each campus and meets three nights per week for three semesters. Successful completion of the course leads to a certificate or an AAS degree. Paramedics provide direct patient care covering a broad range of injuries and illness. Although most paramedics work on ambulances, other career options, such as an off-shore paramedic, combat or swat medic, safety officer, or flight paramedic exist. Experienced paramedics may be eligible to enter the Critical Care Paramedic program, a program designed and first implemented by the EMS staff at Holmes. The required courses are offered in a two-semester format on the Ridgeland Campus. Successful completion of the coursework leads to an AAS degree. Critical Care Paramedics are prepared for a career in critical care transport.

Must successfully pass a Criminal Background Check as required by Mississippi State Law. (Students will be responsible for the fee for the background check which will be paid to the agency conducting the check. HCC will not handle the fee for the background check.)

Paramedics are advanced emergency care responders and they care for the sick or injured in emergency medical settings. People's lives often depend on their quick reaction and competent care. Paramedics respond to emergency calls, perform medical services and transport patients by ambulance to medical facilities. Paramedics can give shots, administer intravenous medications, utilize advanced airway management devices to support breathing and provide cardiopulmonary life support. Paramedics are trained in the use of 30-40 medications.

Pre-requisites required:
Must be accepted to ICC prior to completing a Paramedic Application. Paramedic Application deadline is August 1st. Applicants must: (1) be 18 years of age or older, (2) be a high school graduate or have an equivalency (such as GED), (3) have a minimum ACT score of 16, (4) be a Nationally Registered Emergency Medical Technician (EMT-Basic).

Emergency Medical Technician is a one-semester instructional program that prepares individuals to provide basic emergency medical care and transportation for critical and emergent patients who access the emergency medical system. Emergency Medical Technicians function as part of a comprehensive EMS response, under medical oversight, trained in airway management, communications, documentation, general pharmacology, hemorrhage control, ambulance operations, and splinting of adult, pediatric, and infant patients; and special care of patients exposed to heat, cold, radiation, or contagious disease. Students who complete the program are eligible to take the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians Exam and become state certified.

Pre-requisites required:
Applicants must complete a college application and an EMT Basic program application. Applicants must: (1) have high school diploma or equivalency, (2) provide proof of age and be 18 years old or older, and (3) have a minimum score of 10 on the TABE reading test or minimum ACT score of 16. Applicants accepted into the program will have additional requirements, such as a physical exam, immunizations, TB test, and CPR/Basic Life Support certification.

Applicants must: (1) have high school diploma or equivalency, (2) provide proof of age and be 18 years old or older, and (3) have a minimum score of 10 on the TABE reading test or minimum ACT score of 16. Applicants accepted into the program will have additional requirements, such as a physical exam, immunizations, TB test, and CPR/Basic Life Support certification.

"The Paramedic Program is a two (2) year Associate Degree program that prepares the student for service in the pre-hospital emergency medical setting. The Paramedic Program is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs. Course topics include emergency pharmacology, cardiology, 12 lead EKG interpretation, invasive procedures, advanced cardiac life support, and pediatric advanced life support. On successful completion of the course of study students will be eligible to sit for the National Registry of Emergency Medical Technicians examination. Classroom instruction is comprehensive including a working knowledge of all anatomy, physiology, and pathophysiological processes as well as competency-based instruction in assessment and management skills required for treatment of life-threatening problems in the adult, pediatric, and geriatric patient. Clinical internship requires participation in care of patients in a hospital emergency department that provides medical 80 control to Advanced Life Support providers in the field and, according to availability, Critical Care Unit, Intensive Care Unit, labor and delivery suite, operating room, psychiatric, pediatric, and geriatric wards. Field internship is with local Advanced Life Support Ambulance services."

Applicants must: (1) be at least 18 years old when the course begins and provide a copy of a valid driver’s license for age verification, (2) submit an official high school transcript showing date of graduation or official passing GED score, (3) have a minimum ACT score of 16, (4) provide a copy of a current national Registry EMT-Basic cerfication, (5) provide a copy of current and valid CPR (Health Care Provider Level) certification card, (6) provide proof of physical examination, (7) sign a statement agreeing to TB test, hepatitis B vaccination, or decline them, (8) have a negative drug screen within 10 working days of class starting, (9) completed A&P I within the last 5 years with a grade of “C” or higher, and (10) have a clear background check.
