Job Description
Registered Nurses provide a variety of care services that include treating patients, educating patients and the public about various medical conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients’ family members. RNs record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help to perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. RNs teach patients and their families how to manage illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs, diet and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and physical therapy. RNs work to promote general health by educating the public on various warning signs and symptoms of disease and where to go for help.

Training Opportunities
The Associate Degree Nursing Program offers a curriculum for those seeking an ADN degree and to qualify to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX) as well as licensing from the Mississippi State Board of Nursing.
Pre-requisites required:Application deadline is March 1st for fall semester and September 15th for spring semester. Applicants must complete a college application and a program application. Applicants must: (1) have an 18 or higher ACT score with an 18 subscore in reading and 17 subscore in Math (or have passed College Algebra or higher math), (2) 2.0 GPA on all previous college work, and (3) a C or higher on A&P I and II, Microbiology, and Nutrition.

The Nursing program is a five-semester program whose mission is to prepare graduates to practice safe, competent, patient-centered care in an increasingly complex and rapidly changing health care system. The program seeks to provide full and equal access to opportunities for educational success to meet the community needs. The Nursing curriculum incorporates general education courses along with nursing courses. A Board of Nursing may, at its discretion, refuse to accept the licensure application of any person who has been convicted of a felony or misdemeanor or has charges pending on such issues.
