Job Description
Diesel technicians repair and maintain diesel equipment such as railroad locomotives, trucks, buses and construction equipment. They diagnose the trouble, disassemble parts and examine them for defects and excessive wear. They test and adjust engine parts regularly to prevent problems.
Training Opportunities
The Diesel Power Technology program is an instructional program that provides students with competencies required to maintain and repair a variety of industrial diesel equipment, including agricultural tractors, commercial trucks, and construction equipment. The program includes instruction in computer operations, electrical systems, electronic diagnostics, troubleshooting techniques of engines, power trains, hydraulic systems, and other components. Diesel mechanics use a variety of tools and testing and diagnostic equipment in their work. Ethics and leadership skills in the workplace are taught as integral components throughout the curriculum.
Pre-requisites required:Applicants must apply and be accepted to NEMCC. All students are required to score 100% on a program safety exam prior to the deadline of a course drop/ delete period to remain in class.

This career certificate program provides the graduate with the basic skills and technical knowledge to properly diagnose and repair diesel vehicles, along with problem solving techniques and computer diagnosis. Students are taught in modern, well-equipped labs using heavy duty diesel vehicles for repair procedures as well as electronic diagnostics. Practical experience is given in the following service and repair areas as recognized by ASE and NATEF: Diesel Engines, Drive Train, Brakes, Suspension and Steering, Electrical/Electronic Systems, Heating, Ventilation and A/C
Pre-requisites required:Applicants must apply for East Mississippi admission and be accepted. This program requires an ACT Score of 16 in the Composite and Math areas as well as a Silver Certificate on the Work keys exam. A passing score of 55% on the BMCT (Bennett Mechanical Comprehension Test) is also required.?Students are required to furnish their own set of tools for the program. A complete list of tools will be provided by the program instructor.

Diesel Equipment Technology is an instructional program that prepares students to maintain and repair a variety of industrial diesel equipment including agricultural tractors, commercial trucks and construction equipment. The program includes instruction in inspection, repair and maintenance of engines, power trains, hydraulic systems and other components. Students completing the two-year Diesel Technology program will be awarded an Associate of Applied Science degree. A one-year certificate program is also offered.
