Job Description
Civil engineers design and supervise large and complex construction projects, including roads, buildings, industrial complexes, airports, tunnels, and systems for delivery of water, wastewater and energy.
In today's growing energy and manufacturing economy, civil and environmental engineers are in high demand. Additionally, a growing population and America's aging infrastructure will require a steady supply of civil engineers to solve complex problems.
As a job candidate, you will be required to have a bachelor’s degree in engineering. Many companies also require engineers to obtain a professional engineering license through organizations like the National Council of Examiners for Engineering and Surveying. Civil Engineering programs are offered at 3 Mississippi 4-year universities - Mississippi State University, Jackson State University, and University of Mississippi.
Training Opportunities
Instructions will include training in AutoCAD, Revit Architecture (3D), and SolidWorks (3D). Graduates will have the knowledge and technical skills necessary for employment with architectural or engineering firms, planners, manufacturing companies, furniture designers, governmental agencies, wood and metal manufacturers, and other agencies which utilize drafters and technicians. Instructions will include training in AutoCAD, Revit Architecture (3D), and SolidWorks (3D).

The Electrical Technology instructional emphasis is on theory, circuits, testing, schematic/blueprint drawing and reading, digital principles design basics, motor and control devices, and wire installation with construction and industrial equipment.

The Civil Engineering Technology program prepares a person for entry-level positions in civil engineering, surveying and similar technical fields. The graduate is prepared to work with surveyors, civil engineers or other professionals in the performance of general engineering practices which may include design, drawing, detailing and interpreting working drawings; gathering and interpreting field survey data, inspecting construction, determining equipment, materials and labor required to complete a project.
