Job Description
Registered Nurses provide a variety of care services that include treating patients, educating patients and the public about various medical conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients’ family members. RNs record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help to perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. RNs teach patients and their families how to manage illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs, diet and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and physical therapy. RNs work to promote general health by educating the public on various warning signs and symptoms of disease and where to go for help.
Training Opportunities
The Associate Degree Nursing Program offers a curriculum for those seeking an ADN degree and to qualify to take the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX) as well as licensing from the Mississippi State Board of Nursing.
Pre-requisites required:Application deadline is March 1st for fall semester and September 15th for spring semester. Applicants must complete a college application and a program application. Applicants must: (1) have an 18 or higher ACT score with an 18 subscore in reading and 17 subscore in Math (or have passed College Algebra or higher math), (2) 2.0 GPA on all previous college work, and (3) a C or higher on A&P I and II, Microbiology, and Nutrition.

The ADN (RN) program of study is designed for qualified Licensed Practical Nurses and consists of 2 semesters (30 semester hours) of general education courses and one summer term followed by 2 semesters of nursing courses. Students are provided clinical experiences that build on previously acquired skills and include direct patient care, virtual learning methods and clinical simulations using computerized patient care mannequins.
Pre-requisites required:Minimum Admission Requirements Completion of all prerequisite courses by the end of the spring semester immediately prior to admission to nursing program courses. Must have a cumulative GPA of 2.50 on pre-requisite courses. A minimum grade of C is required in all science courses. Anatomy and Physiology I & II Lec and Lab and Microbiology Lec and Lab must not be more than 5 years old at the time of admission (end of spring semester of year seeking admission). ACT composite score of at least 18 Official high school transcript or GED Official transcript(s) from all colleges or universities attended Must have an unencumbered license to practice as a Licensed Practical Nurse in Mississippi Must have 6 to 9 months of continuous nursing practice documented by employer Record of current immunizations and CPR certification according to program requirements Must meet criminal Background Check requirement

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) Program is designed to provide educational opportunities to qualified students for a rewarding career that will help meet the expanding health care needs of the community. The program prepares the individual to practice as a Registered Nurse, according to the State of Mississippi Law. Graduates receive an Associate of Applied Science Degree and are eligible to take the National Council Licensing Examination (NCLEX®) for licensure as registered nurses.
