Job Description

Registered Nurses provide a variety of care services that include treating patients, educating patients and the public about various medical conditions, and providing advice and emotional support to patients’ family members. RNs record patients’ medical histories and symptoms, help to perform diagnostic tests and analyze results, operate medical machinery, administer treatment and medications, and help with patient follow-up and rehabilitation. RNs teach patients and their families how to manage illness or injury, including post-treatment home care needs, diet and exercise programs, and self-administration of medication and physical therapy. RNs work to promote general health by educating the public on various warning signs and symptoms of disease and where to go for help.

The LPN to RN Transitional – Hybrid Option is designed to assist qualified LPNs with the transition to RN practice via a hybrid learning environment. LPNs accepted into the hybrid option are awarded fourteen (14) semester hours of credit for previous nursing education. After successfully completing the summer transition course, NUR 1116 , students accepted into the hybrid option will by-pass the first year courses required of ADN graduates. As a hybrid driven curriculum, enrollment is limited.

The program of instruction is consistent with the institutional commitment of teaching and learning which is designed to incorporate the highest instructional and nursing standards. The program of instruction is designed to incorporate knowledge, attitudes and skills applicable to life in a complex society. The program also focuses on the education and healthcare needs of rural East Central Mississippi. LPN students are provided an opportunity to seek advanced placement into the Associate Degree Nursing program.

Registered Nurse

The Associate Degree Nursing (ADN) program at PRCC is designed to prepare graduates for a challenging and satisfying career as a registered nurse (RN). The ADN program begins each fall and spring semester on the Poplarville campus. Once accepted into the ADN program, the traditional option is four semesters in length or the LPN to ADN option is one part-time semester with the remaining two semesters of the traditional program of study. The curriculum includes a balance of nursing and general educational courses. Students have the opportunity to apply nursing theory and skills in the simulation/skills lab and in a variety of healthcare agencies. Clinical settings may include hospitals located within the six counties the college serves as well as clinics, long-term care facilities, physician offices, rehabilitation centers, and K-12 schools. Students are required to provide their own transportation to all clinical experiences.

If applicable, a letter from the dean or director of any ADN or BSN program attended stating date of eligibility to return. Note: If not eligible for immediate return, the waiting period is three (3) years from exit date to apply. If applicable, a copy of current unencumbered Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license and a completed LPN Employer Verification form. "The Associate Degree Nursing Program provides students with educational opportunities for personal and intellectual development and for a career to help meet the health care needs of the community. MCC’s program prepares graduates for beginning staff level positions as registered nurses. A graduate receives an Associate of Applied Science degree and is eligible to apply to take the National Council Licensure Examination for licensure as a registered nurse. The program includes a balance of general education and nursing courses, along with planned experiences in patient care. Students learn basic nursing techniques in the college laboratory and care for patients in affiliated hospitals and other clinical agencies. In addition to regular College tuition and fees, students will have additional expenses for clinical apparel, standardized tests, background checks, drug screening, organizational dues, books and insurance. A detailed cost sheet is available from the program coordinator. Students are responsible for their own transportation between the College and clinical agencies."
