Job Description

A lineman is responsible for the installation, repair and maintenance of overhead and underground electrical power lines and auxiliary equipment. This includes work from power plants to the meters of customers homes. Demand for this type of work will never go "out of style" as long as folks use electricity. In fact, thanks to developments in the power industry, our contractors are seeing increased demand for their services - meaning they need more and more workers. With more than 500 line contractors in the organized electrical construction industry, you can be assured of meaningful, lifelong work with opportunities for advancement.

Training Opportunities

Utility Lineman

The Lineworker Technology curriculum is designed to prepare the student for entry-level employment in the field of utility power transmission and distribution construction, troubleshooting, and repair.

Day Only

Pre-requisites required:
Priority given to applicants with ACT composite of 16 or equivalent ACCUPLACER score. Must hold a valid Driver’s License; Must meet general admission requirements for the College; Must complete an Electrical Lineman Technology program application in addition to providing an official copy of driving record and most recent DOT physical along with a clean DOT drug screen. A Class A CDL permit is required to be admitted to the program.

1 semester

Utility Lineman

The Electrical Lineman Program is a 16-week non-credit workforce training program that, when completed, provides graduates with nine credentials: National Electric Codes, National Safety Electric Codes, Multi-Meter, OSHA-10, Forklift, First Aid/CPR, 40-hours climbing, and Pole-Top Rescue. Magnolia Electric Power, Southwest Electric, Southern Pine Electric, and other utility companies in the area, have partnered to establish and support this lineman program through the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Career, Technical, and Workforce Education Center.
